Photography Business Help – Welcome & What the Heck is This?

Welcome welcome welcome to my new home on the interwebs.

What the heck is this, you may be asking? Another photographer doing more workshops? Another photographer offering more business help to other photographers? I can hear it now. I read all of the complaints on Facebook – I can’t believe that another photographer thinks that they’re qualified to teach! Can’t they make a living in photography? I can’t believe that someone would have the BALLS to actually CHARGE for their expertise. Now please pay me for my art. Ha!

The answer is yes, yes you can make a living with a photography business. And other creative businesses too. As a matter of fact, I have run a successful studio for several years now. I have been a full time photographer, with photography as my ONLY INCOME, supporting my family for several years. Yes, it is possible.

So why this, why now? Why set myself up to offer photography business help to those around me?

I think that the best answer comes from a podcast with Elizabeth Gilbert that I just heard – MASTERY IS BORING.

Please don’t misunderstand me – what I do is NOT boring. I absolutely love what I do. For anyone unfamiliar with me or my business, I work with women to remind them of how amazingly beautiful they are. My passion, overall, is to help women embrace their confidence and awesomeness. There are so many ways that can happen, and my photography is one of them.

Another, is to help women grow their creative businesses to be successful, so that they can support themselves and their families.

Fact: I’m driven & ambitious.

I have goals and am constantly reaching to make myself better, to achieve more, and to grow within my own business. Once a certain level of mastery is reached in doing one thing, a driven person is looking for the next step. It doesn’t mean they want to STOP doing what they’re doing, it means that they want to grow further. So do I stay stagnant and stay where I’m at? I could. I’m very happy here, but there’s always a little piece of me that wants to keep growing.

The basketball player starts coaching, it doesn’t necessarily mean he stops playing.
The musician starts giving lessons, it doesn’t necessarily mean she stops performing.
The contractor starts working with apprentices, it doesn’t necessarily mean he stops working.
The chef brings in a Sous Chef, it doesn’t necessarily mean she stops creating culinary wonders.

Why is it so bad to help the next generation in an industry grow? Are there some photographers who aren’t really great business people teaching classes on running a business? Sure. Should they be? That is for the student to determine.

Fact: I want to inspire women to grow, love and accept themselves. Whether those women are in front of my lens, or with me in workshops and shootouts, learning. Am I qualified? You decide. I have taught several workshops that have had rave reviews, I have just never had a home for them, and for other lessons that need to be shared.

So am I still working with women in my photography business? You betcha. I don’t think I could give it up, even if I tried. The urge to CREATE beautiful things with amazing women is ingrained deep inside of me.

In addition to that creative side of me, I will be helping other creative business owners grow as well. After all, I have been helping others for years, it’s just time to put that knowledge and expertise in an organized place online, so that it can be accessed when necessary by newcomers.

So welcome. I’m excited to have you! Whether you are a baker, a photographer, a painter, an interior designer, or anything in between – welcome. I’m excited to work with all types of creative business owners and artists, and I can’t wait to help you achieve your dreams.
